FAQs
Your questions about Strategic Solutions, answered
Who is Strategic Solutions?
Strategic Solutions is an independently owned firm of Chartered Financial Planners. We provide independent financial advice to individuals, families and business owners, from people taking their first financial steps to clients with complex affairs and portfolios worth tens of millions of pounds.
Who owns Strategic Solutions?
Strategic Solutions Financial Services is a partnership. Each partner company is owned and controlled by its respective working principal. Strategic Solutions is independently owned by its working principals.
Is Strategic Solutions truly independent?
Yes, it is. No product provider, financial-advice network, consolidator or private-equity business owns or controls Strategic Solutions. Our advisers are not given provider or product sales targets. We assess suitable solutions from across the relevant market rather than being restricted to products manufactured by an owner or parent group.
Does Strategic Solutions manufacture or white-label investments?
No. We do not manufacture or white-label investment products, and we receive no share of fund, platform or discretionary fund manager charges. Those charges, where applicable, belong to the third-party organisations providing those services and are disclosed separately.
How is Strategic Solutions regulated?
Strategic Solutions Financial Services is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Its current firm reference number is 525733. The firm has been authorised since 17 November 2010.
What can Strategic Solutions advise on?
Our permissions and expertise cover investments, pensions, pension transfers, mortgages and home finance, equity release, protection and insurance, long-term-care planning and related financial planning. The exact service and regulatory protections depend on the work undertaken; your adviser will explain this before you proceed.
Who does Strategic Solutions work with?
We deliberately do not impose a minimum investment portfolio. Our clients include people beginning to save and invest, families building their financial security, people approaching or living in retirement, and individuals with complex multi-million-pound affairs. We believe all people across our community should be able to access professional financial advice.
Is there a minimum amount I need to invest?
No. We have solutions for clients across the wealth range and do not exclude someone simply because their portfolio is small. The appropriate service and its cost will depend on the work required, and we will explain that before you commit.
What is a typical Strategic Solutions client?
There is no single typical client. Among our clients receiving an ongoing service, the median amount under advice is approximately £400,000, but the range extends from people just starting out to clients with tens of millions of pounds under our expert advice.
How large is Strategic Solutions?
Big enough to be stable, small enough to still care. Big enough to negotiate discounts with big providers on your behalf, small enough to pass them on to our clients, not keep them. Strategic Solutions has approximately £1.1 billion of client assets under advice and around 3,200 clients receive an ongoing service, as at September 2026. We also help additional clients with transactional or one-off work. ‘Assets under advice’ does not mean that Strategic Solutions holds or controls client money, that has a separate regulatory meaning. This growth to date has all been achieved organically, with like-minded advisers choosing to work with us, not from us taking Private Equity (PE) or Venture Capital cash like many other firms choose.
How qualified are the advisers?
Strategic Solutions currently has 32 advisers. Of these, 22 are Chartered Financial Planners and of those, 17 are Chartered Fellows. That means approximately 69% of our advisers are Chartered and more than half are Fellows. Five advisers are also fully accredited members of the Society of Later Life Advisers (SOLLA). We keep up to date with our specialist Working Groups, where advisers and staff with particular passions meet to build the best processes to help our clients, for example with Defined Benefit Transfers or Later Life advice.
Where does Strategic Solutions operate?
We principally serve clients across the south of England—broadly from the M4 corridor southwards—but we have clients throughout the UK. Our principal offices are in Bournemouth, Newton Abbot and Folkestone. We also have advisers based in locations including Horsham, Exeter, Yeovil and Sherborne.
Is the first meeting free?
Yes. Every initial meeting is free of charge and without obligation. It gives you and the adviser an opportunity to discuss your circumstances, what help you may need and whether Strategic Solutions is the right firm for you.
When will I know what the advice will cost?
Before any chargeable work begins, your adviser will explain the service, the relevant fees and how they will be paid. Nothing is charged until the basis of payment has been explained and agreed. Our fees are clearly displayed on our website.
Are fees calculated per person or per household?
Fees are calculated per individual, not by combining a couple’s assets. Initial and ongoing minimum fees and fee caps apply per individual. When calculating one person’s percentage charge, that individual’s relevant pensions, ISAs, general investment accounts and other investments are aggregated.
Are Strategic Solutions’ fees capped?
Yes. The standard ongoing-advice fee is capped at £10,000 per individual per year. The standard initial-advice fee is also capped at £10,000 per individual. Your adviser will confirm which service applies and any product-specific or specialist costs before you proceed.
Will I pay another initial fee if Strategic Solutions changes an existing provider?
Normally, no. We do not ordinarily charge a new initial advice fee merely for moving an investment already covered by our ongoing service—for example, transferring an existing personal pension or ISA to another provider. An additional fee may apply where the work is unusual or falls into a materially different advice category, such as purchasing an annuity or arranging a long-term-care plan. Any such fee would be explained and agreed in advance.
How else might Strategic Solutions be paid?
For mortgage business, Strategic Solutions may receive a procuration fee from the lender. For protection business, it may receive commission from the product provider. These payments are disclosed to the client as a monetary amount. Strategic Solutions does not receive a share of fund, platform or discretionary fund manager charges.
Does Strategic Solutions hold client money?
No. The FCA Register records that Strategic Solutions cannot hold or control client money. Client assets are held with the relevant regulated platform, provider, custodian or investment manager.
What protection do clients have?
Depending on the activity and circumstances, eligible people should be able to refer complaints to the Financial Ombudsman Service and may benefit from Financial Services Compensation Scheme protection. Coverage is not automatic for every activity or product, so clients should check the relevant position and the FCA Register.
What does Strategic Solutions contribute to its community?
Through our registered charity, the Strategic Solutions Community Foundation (charity no: 1198318), we have donated more than £320,000 to over 170 charities and community causes since 2019. These figures count paid support recorded through July 2026. The Foundation prioritises causes in the communities we serve. We also hold many positions on our professional body committees and have been on an FCA Statutory Panel, we also respond to their Consultation Papers – helping shape our profession. We were the first IFA firm in the UK to be CSR Accredited, which measured our impact across such areas as our Environment, Community, Workforce and Philanthropy. We believe in giving back to the community where we live, work and play, not just take from it like some others do. We are members of many peer groups such as the Consumer Duty Alliance and the Financial Vulnerability Taskforce.
Is Strategic Solutions an award-winning firm?
Yes. Our evidence register records 72 award, shortlist, accreditation and recognition entries between 2014 and 2026, including 42 competitive wins. Strategic Solutions has appeared in the Citywire New Model Adviser Top 100 in each of those 13 years and has maintained Corporate Chartered status throughout the same period. These awards are not just vanity projects; they are there to openly test us against anyone in financial services who thinks they are good enough to be considered. We either win from entering, or we learn from it.
Is Strategic Solutions the UK’s most awarded financial-advice firm?
We may be among the most consistently recognised independent advice firms in the UK, but there is no complete, authoritative national database that allows a defensible ‘most awarded’ ranking. We therefore publish the awards and dates we can evidence rather than make an unprovable number one claim, but we must be right up there.
What do clients say about Strategic Solutions?
At the most recent evidence capture, our Bournemouth, Newton Abbot and Exeter Google profiles together displayed 124 reviews with a 5.0 average rating on each profile. Our internal client survey recorded an average score of 9.83 out of 10 from 454 responses between September 2023 and July 2026. Our NPS (Net Promoter Score) for this period was an astonishing 99 when asked “How do you rate the overall experience of dealing with a Strategic Solutions adviser”.
Why choose Strategic Solutions?
Clients choose us for independent advice, unusually strong professional qualifications, transparent and capped fees, broad expertise, long-standing external recognition and a commitment to making financial planning available across the wealth range. Just as importantly, we are independently owned by the people who work in the business and serve its clients
